Face Jug

I constructed this piece from two individual pieces that I threw on a wheel. I made the rounded bowl piece and the stem piece separately and used a slip-and-score technique to connect them. Then I added the mouth and eyes onto the jug. I poked holes through the vase to create a more interesting look and expression on the face. I also added ears and eyebrows to make the jug seem more human. My goal with this project was to create a new shape on the wheel that I had never made before. Before glazing, I highlighted specific areas with black underglaze and painted on a series of symbols. I glazed this jug by dipping it in two different glazes, a green copper-like glaze for the stem and a soft brown for the bottom.
