I started this project by creating a paper guide with different shapes cut out of it. I folded this guide around a polystyrene cube and used the guide to make cuts in the cube with a hot wire. After I had the pieces from cutting the cube, I glued them back together to create a new form with channels and spaces in it. I enlarged the guide to fit a larger cube and repeated the process, adding more polystyrene pieces and sticks. I used the sticks to highlight the curves and edges, as well as create dividers, railings and new walkways. Next, I cut out different shapes of paper and used these as windows and doors on the building. I sketched out many different potential landscape designs before deciding on one. My original idea was to create one hill with the building on the top, I changed this to be a smaller hill with other hills on the sides. I used large polystyrene blocks that were cut with a hot wire to imitate a real hill. I also used foam core underneath to create additional terrain and texture. To complete the landscape, I made trees by coiling wire into a trunk shape. I ripped polystyrene with my hands to create a rough edge and I used multiple of these pieces to create leaves for the trees.
